چکیده

Tin was deposited in the amount of 0.4 and 0.8 nm onto CeO2(111) surface by molecular beam deposition at the temperature of 520 K. The interaction of tin with cerium oxide was studied with use of XPS, UPS and RPES (Resonant Photoelectron Spectroscopy). The strong tin – ceria interaction led to the Ce(4-nx)+Snxn+O22compound formation. It was accompanied with partial reduction of CeO2 observed as a giant 4f resonance enhancement of Ce3+ species referring to defects in ceria. CeO2 and SnO2 oxides were formed after oxygen treatment at 520 K. The strong Ce Sn interaction and Sn – Ce charge transfer that lead to a weakening of cerium – oxygen bond and consequently to the formation of oxygen deficient active sites on the ceria surface can be a key of understanding the high catalytic activity of the SnOx/CeOx catalysts.

CO and Soot Oxidation over Ce-Zr-Pr Oxide Catalysts

A set of ceria, ceria-zirconia (Ce 80 at.%, Zr 20 at.%), ceria-praseodymia (Ce 80 at.%, Pr 20 at.%) and ceria-zirconia-praseodymia (Ce 80 at.%, Zr 10 at.% and Pr 10 at.%) catalysts has been prepared by the solution combustion synthesis (SCS). The effects of Zr and Pr as dopants on ceria have been studied in CO and soot oxidation reactions. All the prepared catalysts have been characterized by c...

Infrared Studies on Bimetallic Copper/Nickel Catalysts Supported on Zirconia and Ceria/Zirconia

ABSTRACT Infrared spectroscopy has been employed for a detailed characterization of ZrO2 and CeO2/ZrO2 supported nickel and copper/nickel catalysts to be utilized for methane decomposition. Adsorption of CO at 303 K was performed in order to determine the surface composition and accessible adsorption sites. Alloy formation occurred during reduction, as indicated by a red-shift of the vibrationa...

Surface electrochemistry of CO2 reduction and CO oxidation on Sm-doped CeO(2-x): coupling between Ce(3+) and carbonate adsorbates.

The efficient electro-reduction of CO2 to chemical fuels and the electro-oxidation of hydrocarbons for generating electricity are critical toward a carbon-neutral energy cycle. The simplest reactions involving carbon species in solid-oxide fuel cells and electrolyzer cells are CO oxidation and CO2 reduction, respectively. In catalyzing these reactions, doped ceria exhibits a mixed valence of Ce...

Direct reduction of SO2 to elemental sulfur by methane over ceria-based catalysts

The catalytic reduction of SO2 to elemental sulfur by methane was studied over ceria-based catalysts. Both La-doped and undoped ceria were found to catalyze the SO2 reduction by CH4 in the temperature range of 550–750◦C at atmospheric pressure and with feed gases containing a molar ratio of CH4/SO2 = 0.5–3. At temperatures below ∼550◦C, the catalyst surface is capped by SO2. The reaction light-...

A Comparative Photoemission Study of Ceria and Gold-doped Ceria /Cu(111) Interfaces

We have studied the electronic states in three different ceria thin film surfaces prepared on a Cu(111) single-crystal surface by vapor deposition at different conditions: at 250 °C, at room temperature and finally Au-doped ceria film obtained by simultaneous deposition of Au and CeO2 at room temperature (RT). Electronic properties of the layers and interaction of gold with CeO2 were investigat...
